The Community Liaison Specialist position requires knowledge and familiarity with WIC Program regulations, policies and procedures. Under the direction of the Chief, Outreach and Provider Relations Unit, the Community Liaison Specialist coordinates efforts to promote WIC and other MCH services. The Community Liaison Specialist serves as a primary and effective liaison to community partners and represents SLAHP WIC on local advisory councils, collaboratives and committees. The Community Liaison Specialist provides support and assistance to both the Chief, Outreach and Provider Relations Unit as well as SLAHP’s Director of Communications in the area of social media. The ability to communicate with people effectively is critical and requires sensitivity to and respect for the cultural and personal attitudes and beliefs of the target population. Possible errors in judgment may result in sharing inaccurate information and failure to refer clients to needed services when appropriate.
- The Community Liaison Specialist interfaces with a variety of health professionals, State WIC Program and staff from public and private non-profit organizations as well as WIC Program participants.
- Experience in social media marketing (posting and engagement) on Facebook and Instagram.
- 2 years conducting outreach or education in a community setting
- Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition or health related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, in-depth knowledge of social media platforms and experience implementing a variety of communication strategies to target different population groups is required.
